Worksite Representatives (Staff Reps) are educator colleagues—teachers, TTOCs, and Associated Professionals—who serve as the on-site link between members and the Alberni District Teachers’ Union (ADTU). Elected at each worksite, Staff Reps listen, support, and connect members with union information, resources, and representation so issues are addressed early and respectfully.
How Staff Reps are selected
- Staff Reps are elected each September at every school and at the district (Board Office).
- Representation is set at one Staff Representative for every ten teachers or major part thereof.
What Staff Reps do
- Member support & referral: Provide first-contact support, share options, and connect members to ADTU Executive for confidential casework.
- Site communication: Share updates from Representative Assembly meetings and keep colleagues informed about union discussions and decisions.
- Democratic representation: Serve as voting members of the Representative Assembly (RA), ensuring site perspectives inform union decisions.
- Collective problem-solving: Bring forward workplace issues and emerging concerns to help the union identify and respond to collective priorities.
Why this matters
Staff Reps strengthen our member-led, democratic union by keeping communication clear, mobilizing support when needed, and ensuring every site has a voice in the ADTU’s work.
