Collective Agreement

The collective agreement is the contract that governs the terms and conditions of employment for members of the Alberni District Teachers’ Union (ADTU) in School District No. 70 (Pacific Rim). It is negotiated between the British Columbia Public School Employers’ Association (BCPSEA) and the Board of Education of School District No. 70 (Pacific Rim) on the employer side, and the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) and the Alberni District Teachers’ Union (ADTU) on the union side.

It sets out provisions such as salary, benefits, leaves, health and safety, professional learning, and processes for resolving workplace concerns, promoting fairness, consistency, and respect for the profession.

Within the agreement, provincially negotiated language (Articles numbered below 20) applies to all BCTF members across British Columbia, while locally negotiated language (Articles numbered 20 and higher) reflects provisions specific to our local. Each BCTF local has its own locally negotiated language and provisions reflecting their unique priorities, needs, and conditions.

The ADTU’s first collective agreement on record dates back to 1988, marking the beginning of a long tradition of collective representation and advocacy for our members.
